My go to pizza place in Oak Park area. Our family orders once a week. The double dough pizza is great. A very tasty dough Half way between thin and deep dish. Sauce is also good. Fine variety of toppings. Good delivery or pick up (ready in 25 minutes most times. Stay away from the double decker pie. It's two pizzas on top of each other. Not stuffed. Just weird and messy.

nothing special. i may try the thin crust before i pass final judgment. the "stuffed" pizza was a major disappointment. I read a review proclaiming "the best pizza anywhere near Oak Park" don't get out much do you?

Pretty good deep dish for the area.. The sauce is a little too acidic for me.. but works. The thin is also pretty good. They are always quick with delivery and the people are friendly when we go to pick up. We haven't tried anything other than the pizza.. It's in our regular rotation.

Old World Pizza is located in a narrow strip mall across from Walgreen's on Harlem & North, near the no-man's land where Chicago/Oak Park/Elmwood Park & River Forest all meet. This place has been around since about 1990 and thrives largely on carry-outs and deliveries. Don't be fooled by the tiny interior. They have some tables in case you choose to eat in. Unlike a lot of other pizza places, here you can order by the slice. I always seem to go for their deep-dish cheese or pepperoni. As Kasia M says, the owners are great and helpful. I ate here often when I went to Triton College, but now it's more of a once-a-year visit if I'm in the area. Over the years, they added other menu items besides the pizza and Italian fare, but I'm too much in love with their pizza to try anything else here. Besides, if you really want a hot dog & fries, you can go down the street a few blocks to Johnny's.

I have ordered from Old World Pizza since 1990. I love many items on the menu but I really love the personal pan deep dish pizzas. They are generous, fresh and very yummy.I think that the thin crust pizza is the best that I have ever had! Secondly, the desserts options of pastry are terrific. The only problem is that they run out as they are truly baked daily! I have also used the catering for large parties and found it to be excellent. Delivery is speedy, staff is efficient and friendly and pricing is low!

I honestly don't know how people can say that this pizza is good! Really, it's horrible. A frozen pizza would probably be better. The sauce is acidic, crust like cardboard and I guess this is a personal perfence but way too much poor quaility cheese.

Sweet holy nectar of the gods. Unimaginably addictive. If there is anything on God's earth, other than sex, that's more deeply satisfying than a slice of their 'Old World Spinach' deep dish pie followed by a cold slice of Eli's cheesecake, I have yet to discover it. 5 stars doesn't begin to describe it.

  • Andrea B.

This pizza used to be fantastic BUT they switched to a low grade cheese & the pizza is terrible now. So disappointed. Won't be coming back ever again.

This is a quality pizza. Its fresh. The vegetables in your deep dish have flavor, they are crisp and flavorful. The sauce has rich and there is the perfect amount of cheese and spice. I'm tired of eating pizza that is just a pile of toppings dripping in grease. Old World Pizza does it right. It was some of the best deep dish I had in a long time.

After placing an order, we were told that the pizza would be ready in 25 minutes. When Boyfriend went to pick up the pizza (after 25 minutes), they told him it was going to be another 20. Added point to note: it was completely dead in there. Normally, such an experience would really irk me, but this pizza is really delicious. I've read other reviews that boast the joint's punctuality, so maybe this timing issue was a fluke. The hand tossed crust was quite a bit thicker than I was expecting it to be. It's probably about 3/4 inch of crust. It was too much crust for what i was expecting, but it was still delicious. I'll just be sure to get the thin crust the next time. Finally, this pizza was delicious reheated. Huge plus. Old World Pizza will be added to my weeknight pizza rotation for sure.

Might be hard to find at first, since its physically hidden in that strip mall a few blocks west of that Harlem/North ave. intersection. Inside felt like a small well-run local joint. I vied for the 2 slices & a drink special for exactly $5.31. Slices were pretty big, about 8 inches long, so not exactly Bacci's big. The thin crust was excellent may I add. The dough is very thin, but not wafer thin and its more sticky-doughy and not crispy. The sauce is more on the sweet side and it really complements the sausage topping. I'm surprised that their thin crust isn't as critically acclaimed as their deep dish because to me, their thin crust was absolutely flawless.

There is no reason to go downtown for UNOs or spend a lot of money with Giordano's. The deep dish here is pretty well executed. Good balanced sauce, super cheesy and even toppings. Crust holds well.

  • Susan C.

This is absolutely my favorite pizza spot EVER. Extremely fresh, plentiful toppings and a very rich sauce.

  • Anton S.

No matter what other people say, this is my favorite (and my best) pizza place. Always ordering the same kind of pizza (the largest with almost all possible toppings). They always inform you how much time it's gonna take to cook it and when they're not super busy call you back letting you know pizza is ready or almost ready. Never had a delivery, always pick-up and always great service. In short, the best pizza ever, i hope their business will be here forever. Best of luck!

  • Erica C.

Absolutely delicious pizza!!! My favorite actually :) and their customer service is unbeatable. They definitely want their customers to be happy. The sit down area is small so we usually do takeout but it's good for a quick bite. Pizza is always cooked perfectly; never burnt, cold, always looks appetizing and 'pretty'. There is a great pizza place a block away from my house and even though Old World is about a 15 minute drive away from me, it's worth it.

This review is based on a carryout pizza experience. Eh. Seems like several years back I might have stopped at this place for a slice of pizza and wasn't impressed - well, nothing has changed. Had a sausage pizza from Old World tonight. The pizza lacked flavor. The sausage was OK, but not enough of it, cheese was adequate, crust was pretty good, but there was too much tomato sauce on it. With all the sauce, it was one of the sloppier pizza eating experiences I have had in recent times - if it had tasted better, the slop factor would have been worth it. There are a lot of choices in the area - this is not one of the better ones. Average at best.

  • Chris W.

Probably one of the better pizza joints on the Northwest side of Chicago. They are known for their "pan pizza" but their thin crust is also delicious. They load their pizzas with quality ingredients and with the best cheeses. Remember guys, "well-done." Never forget!

  • Janet J.

I suspect this place has been sold or is under new management although they deny it. I remember the old owners and they aren't present anymore. Prices have gone way up and the quality is way down. They have lost my business.

  • John M.

I've only ordered here for pick up. So I can't vouch for service. Everyone seemed friendly enough, though I will point out to me that is being basically polite. I don't really want to chat with them and I really don't care if they remember me. I am looking for pizza not pals. It is a really nice pizza and we got it with red peppers sausage and olives. My friend wanted green olives, but this combination really worked. Good sausage as well. I mean if it isn't good, it is going to be dominate pizza flavor. To pontificate about pizza, its about sauce and crust. They have a nice sauce and the crust is thin and good, so the pizza is tasty! We also had Buffalo Wings and the sauce was a but BBQ-y, either that is their sauce, or my friend mis ordered or they gave us the wrong thing. Don't know which! But since everything is an experience, they were pretty darn good. What I miss, everywhere, is getting some celery with wings!

When I used to go to school and work in Oak Park this was my go to place. They have cheap lunch deals. The pizza is yummy. The staff is friendly. They have a little sit down area with TV and accessible, lot parking right out front. Also, their antipasta salad is one of my favorites. So good.

Service bad. Like I've ordered twice and had service failures both times. First time the time was off by like a half hour. Annoying. Second time I went to pick up my carryout forty minutes after placing an order and they - well, some bum running an empty store - told me he hadn't put it in the oven yet and that they would rectify the situation by giving us delivery without a delivery charge. Infuriating. In other words, after wasting 30 minutes driving to the place and back, I would have the pleasure of waiting another 30-40 minutes until their driver showed up. A half-hour of my time wasted, gas money wasted, and a pizza that showed up 50 minutes after it was supposed to be there, but hey, at least I didn't have to pay the $3.00 I wouldn't have had to pay if they were running a competent service business. Brilliant customer service there. Lest you get a false impression, I've factored the actual pizza into the rating. It's kinda mediocre. With so many decent pizza places in the area, I probably won't be going back.

I ordered from Old World last October when I visited my sister who lives in the area. We took home a deep dish cheese pizza and it was de-lish! I couldn't believe how much pizza I got for the price! Super cheesy that stretched what seemed like miles! and a great buttery crust. When I go back next month I am going to order again from this place! Okay, were there any downsides? I would say the service was not quite up to snuff. When I said to the guy behind the counter 'How's it goin'?" He looked at me like I was speaking swahili or something. I don't live in the area or the state of Illinois any longer, but I'm pretty certain this is still acceptable to say? I took a menu and left. We ordered by phone later in the day and we went back to pick it up versus delivery. The girl behind the counter was okay, not rude or anything, but no one seemed to really want to extend any common courtesies. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no Ms. Manners, but I just think the overall experience would have been better if they were a bit nicer.

Best deep dish in the city, said and done. The thin crust is great too. I haven't eaten anything else from there because I can't pass the pizza up. I've never had a problem with the delivery service and the small eat-in is good for a quick bite on the run - a big slice and a can of RC will only set you back six bucks. They have a small TV usually showing whatever sports game is on. In the winter, eating there is hampered by the constant cold winds from the frequent entry and exit of delivery drivers. A small gripe.

We visited Old World friday night for dinner. We ordered the deep dish pizza. All I can say is WOW...This was yummy My husband kept commenting on how good the cheese was ...it was! One of the owners Jimmy was there and told us the history of OW and how they bake their pizza and other foods. Everything made from scratch. . No frozen foods here. . Believe me you CAN taste the difference. We are Fans..remember the deep dish takes a while to bake so call ahead.

Best deep dish in town!!! Honestly this place has great pizza! I have been coming here for at least 10 years! Nothing has ever changed! Taste just as good as it did the first time I had their pizza. The sauce is what makes their pizza delicious! It's also pretty inexpensive! If your looking for some great deep dish in this area.. Come check it out! Yum yum yum

I'm new to the neighborhood but have tried many of the pizzas around here and I was just not a fan of any of them. I was planning a birthday party and wanted to order 4-5 Extra Large pizzas. I did not want to order from the places I have already tried. I even contacted Adrienne B. who raves about OWP deep dish. She said she loves this place and it's clean so I thought I'd take a risk and order the 4 Extra Large pizzas for my party. I'm so glad I did! Everyone at the party kept asking where I got the pizza and telling me how much they loved it! I'm so glad I got lucky and without ever having ordered from here before this party. Your pizza hit the spot and filled that pizza craving. We did order the thin pizza and it was nice and crispy. The cheese was really good not like some of the other places I have tried around here. Thanks OWP, I'm a fan!

Old World has the best pizza in town, fresh ingredients, fast delivery & they make it well done without question!!

I ordered a deep dish sausage & mushroom. Tasted ok. Sauce has a pepperoni taste to it. Reminds me of the deep dish they had at Wrigley before Giordanos. It tasted better cold than it did hot. Its a 3/5 for me.

We order here often , it's very good pizza, restaurant has a very nice family feel to it. I would give it five stars but sometimes it's kept in the oven little to much , but most of the time it's perfect ,

I went to old world pizza today. It was my second time there. The first time I had slices and the second time I went there I had cheese slices. The second time I went there the sauce was a little bit watery. I got two cheese slices and a root beer for $6 This is a place that I would go to two or three times a year. Customer service is really friendly there.

  • Katie J.

What happened to this place? It was my "go to" place for nice thin crust pizza, but not anymore. Crust is soggy, pizza is overwhelmed with tomato sauce and there isnt enough cheese on my cheese pizza. This is a tomato sauce pizza with some cheese, on soggy crust. Bad idea for a pizzaria with about 10 others, blocks away. So disappointing.

  • Milton R.

Awesome lunch special! The deep dish definitely has a distinct, tangy flavor, which can be either good or different. I've developed a taste for it that has bought me back for a monthly fix. Worth the stop.

  • Rhonda G.

I've tasted a lot of pizza in my life and this one doesn't even make the list of "likes" I think the crust has no flavor and adds nothing to the pizza so might as well be cardboard. Their is absolutely nothing that stands out about this place so nothing to make you pick this over the eight million other places around. I wanted to try this place because for one it's called Old World so I thought "Oh man...just like Italy!" and second I had a coupon. I had the think crust pizza so maybe I need to try the deep dish...NAH! I can't chance it...try Spizzico.

Lovely pizza, which I was lucky enough to have delivered to me in Oak Park the other night! Yumm! I also love the lasagna, meat balls, and sausage and peppers. I have had delivery from here several times, including a big meal for 20 which I had delivered earlier in the year for my office staff. Everything is always piping hot and the staff is friendly and easy to deal with on the phone or in person (not always the case when you are trying to order food for delivery). It is a little tricky to find the place in a strip mall off of North and Harlem, but it is worth the effort! Great food and service!

  • T M.

Update, I may NEVER order the thin pizza here again! I know a few months ago I was raving about how good it was and how it was my new go to pizza. I decided to go off the reservation and try the well reviewed pan pizza, I am shocked how much I enjoyed it! The crust is delicious, crunchy, almost a bit buttery. The sauce is all fresh tomato, without too much sweetness. I had sausage, excellent and plentiful. The pie is soo cheesy its just unreal. I have to say for a devout thin crust pizza man, this pan pie has me very, wonderfully confused. What more can I say order it thin and its great, order the pan and u may not go back, but definitely, definitely order it now!!

  • John W.

Best pizza anywhere near Oak Park. The deep dish is especially noteworthy but the thin crust is also great. The phone folks are efficient and pleasant and the food is always ready when promised, whether it is ordered for pick-up or delivery. We always get Old World for out of town guests who want to try a real Chicago-style pizza. If you are going there for the first time, expect a small place with just a few tables and a TV tuned to a game, in season. The place is set back a bit in the strip mall that has a Blockbuster (till bankruptcy claims it, at least) near North Avenue - look for Old World at the far end of the strip mall.

With comments like "It's the bomb" and horrible grammatical errors in certain reviews, I was hesitant on trying Old World Pizza because I felt that those who are writing these comments might not know better pizza. As usual, my gut feeling never lets me down. I tried Old World Pizza and it was OK, nothing great, just OK. The staff seemed to work well, trying to get the crowd out but the pizza just didn't live up to what I feel an "old world" pizza should be like. I remember a place we would go to when I was a kid that had what I feel is "old world" pizza and this place definitely misses the mark. Now please understand that I'm not saying this pizza was terrible, it was OK if you're in the mood for some pizza but don't expect to be wowed.

  • BRIAN M.

I tried the thin crust pizza from here. NOT??!! I won't be ordering from this place again. They fool you with the great looking delicious mouthwatering pizza photo on their menus until you get their product after you ordered. Their pizza is too thin, like a cracker crust, and it is tasteless, and very very disappointing. WORK ON THE SAUCE & THE CRUST GUYS!!! Where the HELL DID YOU GUYS GET THAT PHOTO FROM ON YOUR MENUS??? I WANT A PIZZA LIKE THAT!!!! YOU SHOULD BE SUED FOR FALSE ADVERTISING....AND DELIVERING A FALSE TASTELESS PRODUCT. I'd like to find out who took this picture and SLAP THEM for selling their photos for false advertising purposes to this joint. Then, I'd go buy pizza at the place that had the REAL STUFF FROM THE PHOTO. Don't waste your time on their pizza!!

  • Rachel L.

I don't calorie splurge on Chicago style pizza often, but when I do, only Old World will suffice. When I have guests from out of town who want Chicago style pizza, I always order carry out of their Old World Special, which has peppers, onions, homemade sausage and the best tomato sauce I've ever had. Hole in the wall storefront, so best for carry out.

There deep dish pizza is definitely one of the best! I've tried there mostaccoli too but not to crazy about it so have just stuck to there pizza. They have a lunch special where you get 2 slices and a drink for like $5 and some change. ESPN seems to always b on the TV so thats always good while waiting for your food =) Small sit in place with friendly workers. Started coming here when I went to school in the neighborhood and still manage to make my way here every once in awhile. Would def reccomend you try there deep dish if your in the area.

Their thin crust pizza is the bomb. They are always super friendly & fast with delivery. We're lucky to have such a great indie pizza joint so close. Many neighborhoods only have the same old chains.

best deep dish in the city. in terms of thin crust it competes for second with mr. beef. coulutas being first. never one problem with my order, delivery is fast and inexpensive. only complaint: pizza arrives too piping hot and delicious! please note i have only eaten their pizza, so cannot avow for the rest of the menu.

Amazingly consistent pizza -- fresh, wonderful sauce and loaded with toppings. Fave is thin crust pepperoni/onion or sausage/onion. Also love the deep dish spinach.

The best pizza, excellent sandwiches, and appetizers. It's worth every penny.. !!!!!!!! The pizza is always filled w/ tons of topping.. they are not stingy when it comes to the topping. Their Beef's are always loaded w/ meat. Delicious Food! Great Service! Owners are great, always get a discount when they are at the cash register. (Hide)

Best pizza I've had in Chicagoland. I've recommended this place to people at work when they ask for a good pizza place and have never had any complaints. It's also a favorite of the Chicago PD as i see them eating there on breaks frequently. very small dine in area. Maybe 2 or 3 tables max.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
